You are overriding the infrared beam sensor when you hold down the wall button continuously while the garage door is closing.
Garage door only closes if i hold the button.
One of the sensor lights will usually be blinking when there is a malfunction.
Any transmitter like a handheld clicker or outdoor keypad will also not work to close the door if there is a problem with the sensor.
Misaligned dirty or defective photo eyes.
A small amount and the door returns that is the sign of the safety sensor system.
When this happens your garage door will only close by holding down on the wall button until the door fully closes.
You may find that the door will only move an inch or so in the close direction.
Align clean or replace as needed.
