Garage Door Needs Button Has To Be Held

I have 2 craftsman 1 2 hp door openers each car has a remote and i am trying to get my remote to open with the large button on the remote and my wife s door to open with the other button.

When i disconnect the carriage and manually move door it seems to move smoothly in both directions. Even after putting new batteries in the remote the garage door still is not. Next release the button when the overhead opener unit s lights blink. Until it completely closes and the remotes only make the door move. If i just press and release the button the door starts to close then reverses. Within this 30 second time period press and hold the button on the hand held remote.

I tried resetting them but now the large button opens both doors at the same time. When you can close the door with the wall button by holding it down.
